Neuropelveology: Latest Developments in Pelvic Neurofunctional Surgery Pathologies of the pelvis are responsible for chronic pelvic pain in all its various forms; chronic lower back pain, lower extremities pain-syndrome as well as a multitude of pelvic organ dysfunctions. All these conditions are fairly common and can involve many medical speciality fields, each with its own approach to diagnostics and treatment of the complaint. No discipline to date has been able to draw together all the varying aspects of this complex field. This concept of Neuropelveology, the medical specialty focusing on the pathologies of the pelvic nervous system, was introduced more than ten years ago by the author who has been working on the development of this new medical discipline for over 15 years. Due to a rapidly growing interest from the medical community at large, the International Society of Neuropelveology (ISoN) (www.theison.org) was founded in 2014 with one major objective, to provide universal access to education in Neuropelveology. It is based on a neurological/neurosurgical approach, combining the knowledge required for a proper neurological diagnosis with advanced laparoscopic surgery in selected cases. Management of patients suffering from intractable pelvic nerve pathologies requires multi-disciplinary contributions and neuropelveology may offer an educational platform for the interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge between clinical physicians and basic researchers. The International School for Neuropelveology offers an E-learning program accessible to all physicians for the acquisition of such knowledge. The book – “Neuropelveology – Latest Developments in Pelvic Surgery” – 1 st .ed. explores in- depth all relevant subjects in neuro-functional pelvic anatomy, in diagnostics and treatment in Neuropelveology. This textbook not only includes all the skills necessary for successfully completing proficiency at the ISNP-Level 1 examination but rather offers those physicians who are interested in diagnosing pathologies of the pelvic nerves, the knowledge to do so themselves, even if they are not experienced in laparoscopic techniques. It is for this reason that the book lends itself not only as a reference manual for distinguished surgeons but also as a general reference text for every physician who will see patients with chronic pelvic pain in their consultation rooms. Neuropelveology is not merely a rarified specialty discipline of the future. It has practical applications today for every General Practitioner all the way up to the specialists in pelvic medicine, neurology, orthopaedics and neuro-surgery, as well as the non-invasive fields of osteopathy, chiropractic, physiotherapy and psychotherapy.
