One of the most important skills that all musicians - especially piano players - must learn is the ability to read notes on both the Treble and Bass clefs. However, because the new student typically wants to focus more on actually playing a song rather than taking the time to study the notes of grand staff, this skillset tends to be pushed aside as nothing more than an inconvenience. Most students (and some teachers too!) hope that as new songs are learned, the student's ability to identify and read music on the staff will simply improve over time. This may work some of the time. However, all too often students grow frustrated with the process of learning a new song, scale, chord, or exercise simply because the act of reading the notes on the staff is deemed too time consuming and burdensome and the skillset is left to (hopefully) develop on its own. With The Staff Master: Sight Reading I the notes on the staff are introduced in a gradual fashion with FULLY COLORED and chunky exercises designed to catch the student's eye and keep their attention while working through each new section. The exercises are cumulative. So the first set of note reading exercises may appear relatively simple or short at the beginning of the workbook but as new notes are explored, the previous notes are never forgotten and continue to follow the student with each subsequent exercise up until the very end. For design purposes, the majority of the workbook exercises utilize the whole note (as opposed to a quarter note, half note, etc.) on the staff in an effort to limit distraction and intimidation. However, by the very end of the book, many other types of notes are displayed on the staff and the student is finally challenged to read and write the notes down as they would be asked to do if they were looking at an actual piece of sheet music. With close to 3000 note exercises, this workbook is a must have for any student or parent who wants to FINALLY stop relying on the crutch of silly sentences or phrases just to get to the next note in the measure and instead spend more time actually learning the song!Book Outline and Material Covered:Learn the Lines and Spaces of the Treble Clef (from Middle C up to the top line of the Treble Clef)Learn the Lines and Spaces of the Bass Clef (from the bottom line of the Bass Clef up to Middle C)FULLY COLORED with pictures and EXTRA LARGE PRINT throughout the entire workbookChunky exercises as to not intimidate the student and leave enough room to write in your answer (Really good for young children but more than enough room for older students and adults as well!)Introductory music staff theory, fill in the blank exercises, and exercises requiring the student to write the note on the staff itselfIMPORTANT NOTE:**Sharps, flats, and ledger lines are not covered in this book.
